The Select program is designed for athletes who have foundational understanding of volleyball and are looking to play in a more challenging, yet still friendly environment. Boys will play official matches against boys only, and girls play official matches against girls only. This program will provide a more intense level of practice as well as higher level of competitive gameplay using USAV rules while still valuing sportsmanship, teamwork and continuous improvement. To ensure balanced teams and a higher level of play, tryouts are required followed by a selection process where friend requests are not honored.

PLAYING TIME POLICY FOR SELECT
Select does not have an equal playing time policy and games are match play (best 2 out of 3). ALL ATHLETES ACCEPTING A SPOT ON THE SELECT TEAM automatically agrees to the SELECT PLAYING TIME POLICY as detailed below:
Select Team (and League) will follow USAV rules where positional substitution is used. Some positions naturally have more playing time than others. RVB Coaches decide which players substitute on and off the court taking into account individual, team and game dynamics. Individual playing time is influenced by positional needs, skills, effort, attitude and practice attendance.
There is no equal playing time nor minimum amount of time required for coaches to play any athlete during matches.
If there are any playing time concerns, the athlete is allowed to discuss matters with the team coach, but must wait after 24 hours have passed from the last match played. If parents desire to engage with the coach regarding any matters related to their athlete, it must be after the athlete has already had an initial conversation with the coach. Note, when parents are conversing with the coach, the athlete must also be present and be an active participant in the meeting with the coach as it is the athlete’s experience that is being discussed.
Coaches will communicate any issues that impact playing time to the athlete. Keep in mind that coaches are not required to provide minimum playing time -that only exists in our House / Recreation League.
The Volleyball Director or a representative appointed by the RVB Director can be contacted, if needed. Click here to read the Select Team policy for athletes and families.
