Requests for children younger than 9 years old as of September 30 must be submitted to the Division Coordinator/League commissioner and will be considered on a case-by-basis where level of coordination, ability, maturity of the athlete and availability of spots will factor in the decision. Athletes MUST register in their respective grade division* with the exception of Select. Please refer to Select for eligibility rules.

GENERAL TIMELINE:

  • Clinics and open gyms will be offered throughout the year —preseason, postseason, and off-season! Some clinics will be included in the registration fee, and others will be a la carte.

  • Mid February: Select Tryout registration ends; Tryout dates TBD (mid-late Feb)
  • Late February/Early March: Teams Formed, Pre-Season House Clinics / Open Gyms begin
  • Mid/End March: Practices and Matches for House & Select
  • House Playoffs are Saturday, May 16, 2026; NOTE: 7/8 Boys House, 7/8 Girls Select, & 7/8 Boys Select may have a different match schedule

*Families may request for their athletes to be assigned to an older House league, however, decisions to move athletes are at the sole discretion of the Volleyball Director. Occasionally, the Division Commissioners may recommend and request an athlete to be placed in a different age group and will do so upon the approval of the athlete’s family.

REGISTRATION

Registration is required for all participants, referees, and volunteers. Tryouts for Select are free, but House and Select registration is required prior to trying out. ALL 7/8 Girls & Boys interested in Select should register early for house to guarantee a spot in our league, this is the only way the player will be able to play in our league if the player is not offered a spot on a Select Team. There will be an additional cost of $50 to play in Select based on a greater amount of resources required. All registrations after February 28th, 2026, will incur a $25 late registration fee. We have limited team sizes. Once a division is full, the registrant will be placed on a waitlist and notified by email if a spot becomes available. No fees will be taken unless a player is accepted and confirmed into the program. Financial Aid can be provided based on eligibility requirements and can be requested during registration. COACHES/REFEREES
We welcome and always NEED enthusiastic volunteers to coach and to help run the league. Head Coaches get one free athlete registration and also have the opportunity to choose practice day and time (that are available). Student coaches receive community service hours. Referees must in high school or post high school and are hired based on volleyball experience. Questions? email [email protected].

NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND TEAMS

Our aim is to have teams of 10-12 players in both House and Select. However, numbers will vary based on multiple factors to include current athletes registered, volunteers and gym availability. For House, friends are encouraged to sign up together – our motto is “play together, stay together”. For Select, athletes will be drafted and offered spots – no friend requests are honored.

STRUCTURE FOR HOUSE 4TH/5TH, 6TH & 7TH/8TH GRADE LEAGUE

House is a developmental league. Teams practice 1x a week and have 1 hour allotted on Saturday* for a match. Match format is first team to 2 sets won/best out of 3 with the first two sets to 25 and the 3rd deciding set to 15 – and must win by 2 points. Rules will vary based on division to foster growth and development. Athletes must play in their grade division unless approved by the league commissioner. *Makeup matches may be held on other days.

STRUCTURE FOR GIRLS MS SELECT SPRING AND FALL SEASONS VARY

This is beyond the “intro to volleyball” level and will provide a competitive volleyball experience for athletes wanting a more intense level of play. Tryouts are required. Note: Active Club players are NOT ELIGIBLE to play MS Select. This ensures as many players possible can have a competitive volleyball experience. HS Club players are welcome to coach a house team. Practices are once a week and attendance is required. IN THE FALL SEASON, Saturday matches are held against the other RVB Select volleyball team or as friendlies against other area teams. IN THE SPRING SEASON, Saturday matches will be held against other local area teams (i.e. McLean). Matches are typically slotted for 1.5 hours – first to 3 sets out of 5, sets to 21 or win by 2 as time allows. *Makeup matches or playoffs may be held on other days. Playing time is not guaranteed. Our goal is to keep the level competitive for those seeking a more challenging experience. The focus will and always will be on growth and development in a competitive setting.

RVB CODE OF CONDUCT

As an athlete, spectator, fan, coach and/or official, I accept and practice the principle that the success of our Reston Hoops/Reston Volleyball (RH/RVB) league and our reputation is built not only on its playing ability, but also on our humanics – our sportsmanship, courtesy, and citizenship, for all who participate and attend league activities. To stay true to the core values of RH/RVB, I pledge to behave responsibly and to set a positive example by:

· Treating all people with respect.

· Cheering in a positive and encouraging manner.

· Recognizing volunteers or hired bodies for the league strive to perform to the best of their abilities, therefore I will give deference to those that are officiating and overseeing the league for the decisions made for athlete development and general league operations.

· Refraining from addressing game officials or commenting negatively on their decisions during the play of the game.

· Understanding that it is my responsibility to know the rules and policies of the league and gyms and abide by them. In addition, for coaches & athletes:

· At the conclusion of the game – to be humble and generous in victory and proud and courteous in defeat; and to shake hands of the opposing teams and officials.

And as a spectator & fan (this includes family members):

· To remember that our RH/RVB athletes participate to have fun and our youth league is for them, not for the adults.

· To refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

· To demand that the RH/RVB sports environment is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.

I acknowledge that a coach or a program representative is authorized to give disciplinary action that could include but is not limited to: a verbal warning; a direction to leave the facility; a future ban from a game or a season suspension; or, a team game forfeit due to the violation of this code and that the league official may decide to execute this at their sole discretion.
